Admission Guide for 2025 Master's Programs of Shanghai University-University of Lisbon Introduction of ULisboa School ULisboa School,Shanghai University (License No. MOE31PTA02DNR20222287N) was officially approved by the Ministry of Education, China in April 2022. It is jointly established by Shanghai University, China and Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. The school offers three undergraduate dual degree programs (Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering) and three master degree programs (in the same areas). The first class has enrolled 175 undergraduates in September 2022. Introduction of Partners Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the largest and most prestigious university in Portugal and is one of Europe’s leading universities. Heir to a university tradition that spans over seven centuries, ULisboa acquired its current status in July 2013, following the merger of the former Universidade Técnica de Lisboa and Universidade de Lisboa. ULisboa brings together various areas of knowledge and has a privileged position for facilitating the contemporary evolution of science, technology, arts and humanities. It offers 102 undergraduate programs, 216 master programs, and 135 doctoral programs. Shanghai University (SHU) is a comprehensive university under the state key construction of "Project 211", co-built by Ministry of Education, China and Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It is one of the first batch of pilot projects for the construction of high-level local universities in Shanghai, and a national first-class discipline construction university. Introduction of Masters Combining the advantages and characteristics of the two partner universities, ULisboa School carries out talent cultivation and scientific research cooperation in the fields of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and cultivates composite senior engineering and technical talents who are fluent in English and Portuguese. ULisboa School’s Master's degree program began enrollment in 2023, offering the following three majors: Electrical and Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. All classes are held in English. Upon completion of the programs, students will receive a Master's degree diploma from the University of Lisbon and a certificate from Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of the Ministry of Education, China. lElectrical and Computer Engineering The Master's degree program in Electrical and Computer Engineering is offered by the School of Mechatronic Engineering and Automation (SMEA) of SHU and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST Técnico) of ULisboa. SMEA has several important research platforms, including the National 863 Program Robot Industrialization Base, the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, the Engineering Center of the Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Power Station Automation Technology, the China-UK Science Bridge "China-UK Joint Laboratory of Energy and Automation". SMEA has jointly built several important scientific research bases such as "Shanghai Automotive Electric Drive Engineering Technology Research Center" and "Shanghai University-Nanrui Group Smart Grid New Technology Joint Research and Development Center". ULisboa, and particularly IST Técnico, ranks 99 in the field of engineering in The Best Global Universities ranking by U.S. News & World Report in the field of engineering and 101–150 in the field of electrical and electronic engineering in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking - ARWU). Both partners have profound academic knowledge, first-class faculty and research platforms, which provide sufficient academic quality guarantee for the Master program. The core degree courses in this program cover a wide range of relevant fields such as computers, telecommunications, electronics, control and energy, including modern power system analysis, advanced power electric devices and power converters, electronic power conversion and storage, new energy converter and grid-connected technology, microelectronics, telecommunications systems, advanced computer architectures, optimization and algorithms, artificial intelligence and decision systems, image processing and vision, among others. lCivil Engineering The Master's degree program in Civil Engineering is offered by the School of Mechanics and Engineering Science (SMES) of SHU and IST Técnico of ULisboa. The Civil Engineering discipline of SMES has a reasonable structure, high quality, young, strong research force academic team, a number of professors enjoying high academic reputation in related fields. The discipline has 15 professors and 21 associate professors (associate researchers), among which 28 have overseas study or work experience, forming a "double-advanced" teaching team with excellent teaching and good scientific research. In recent years, SMES has won the first prize of Natural Science Award for University ScientificResearch Achievements of the Ministry of Education, the second prize of Natural Science Award, the second prize of Shanghai Natural Science and Technology awards of China. The Civil Engineering program of the University of Lisbon in Portugal, particularly IST Técnico, ranks 33 in The Best Global Universities ranking by U.S. News & World Report, 43 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Rankings - ARWU) and is positioned among the top 100 in the QS World University Rankings. The Civil Engineering area of ULisboa has also consistently ranked in the top 10 in Europe of ARWU. The core degree courses in this Master's education program cover a wide range of relevant fields of civil engineering, such as hydraulics, transportation, construction, structures and geotechnics. For all fields, very well-equipped teaching and research laboratories are available for experimental classes and master dissertations. lEnvironmental Engineering The Master's degree program in environmental engineering is offered by the School of Environmental and Chemical Engineering (SECE) of SHU and IST Técnico, Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA - School of Agriculture) and Faculdade de Ciências (FCUL - Faculty of Sciences) of ULisboa. SECE has academicians, national talents and ESI highly-cited scientists and other high-level talents more than 30 people, and basically covers all disciplines of "Environmental Engineering". It has several important research platforms, such as the Key Laboratory of Organic Composite Pollution Control Engineering of the Ministry of Education, China and Shanghai Engineering Technology Research Center for Collaborative Treatment of Multi-Media Environment. Environmental science and engineering in SHU received an A- in 2021 Times Higher Education Rankings. ULisboa, particularly through IST Técnico, ISA and FCUL, ranks 43 in the field of water resources and 94 in environment/ecology in the Best Global Universities ranking by U.S. News & World Report. The same ranking indicates that ULisboa is positioned as number 99 in the general field of engineering. Both partners have deep academic knowledge, which can provide excellent academic quality assurance for the program. The core courses of this Master's program include environmental chemistry, climate modeling, industrial wastewater treatment technology, urban environmental planning, renewable energy, among others. Program Advantage The Master's degree programs integrate high-quality teachers and teaching resources, as well as several research facilities, from the partner universities of China and Portugal, whose professors will teach different courses. It adopts a three-dimensional mode integrating lesson teaching, experimental practice and international communication. Duration and Study Style Duration: 2 academic years Program start: September each year Place of study: The first academic year will be held in Shanghai, and the first semester of the second academic year (September-January) will be held in Lisbon, Portugal. Students studying in Lisbon in the first semester of the second academic year will be able to return to China before the Spring Festival.
Requirements for Graduation: Complete 120 credits (ECTS), including 24 credits (ECTS) of a master's thesis. Enrollment Quota and Tuition Fee Enrollment Quota: 30 for each Master, 90 for the three Masters. If the enrollment amount of each program is less than 25 students, the program may not open. Tuition Fee: RMB 50,000 per academic year, paid directly to SHU. This fee does not include visa, transportation, accommodation, living, insurance and other expenses in Portugal. Entry Requirements lEnglish Level Applicants need to have a fair level of English. Applicants must have a minimum score of B1 in the Common Framework of Reference for European Languages (CEFR B1), or a TOEFL score greater than 55, an IELTS score greater than 4.5, a CET4 score greater than 500, a CET6 score greater than 425. Applicants with CET4 or CET6 score alone are required to have an extra oral English interview. lProfessional Background Electrical and Computer Engineering BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related fields, such as Electrical Engineering and Automation, Computer Science and Technology, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, among others. Candidates with other backgrounds may also be accepted, provided they demonstrate adequate curriculum in the area. Candidates admitted to the MSc program must provide all official documents authenticated with the Hague Apostille. Only the applications of candidates that sign and authenticate with the Hague Apostille the statement in annex will be accepted. All documents should be sent, with the reference "Applicant's name / ULisboa Master Program registration", to the Enrollment Email address ulsmsc@oa.shu.edu.cn Evaluation and Admission ·The decision about the evaluation and admission of candidates is based on the following criteria: scientific affinity between the previous undergraduate degree and the Master the candidate is applying for; ·nature of the previous undergraduate degree completed by the candidate; ·academic performance on the previous undergraduate degree completed by the candidate; ·other relevant academic activities or professional experience. The applications and requests for clarification must be submitted to ULisboa School of SHU (contacts indicated below). After receiving the candidates’ files, ULisboa School will confirm the adequacy of the documentation. After the preliminary examination, ULisboa School of SHU will send the candidates' files to the coordinators of ULisboa and SHU. The coordinators evaluate the candidates, decide on the admission and ranking. The coordinators will then send the final list of admissions to ULisboa School of SHU, in order to be communicated to the candidates and proceed with the enrollment. The students will then register in ULisboa and get a special ID card from SHU. ANNEX Statement I am writing this statement to declare that I will be studying in Lisbon, Portugal, in the first semester of the second academic year. I will strictly abide by the School´s requirements, regulations, namely the IST Code of Conduct and Good Practices and Students’ Disciplinary Regulation, and complete each course carefully. If I am unable to study in Lisbon for any reason, I am aware that I will not be able to obtain the degree, and thus, the corresponding certificate.
