Leonel Sousa is Full Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisboa (ULisboa), and Senior Researcher at the Institute for Computer and Systems (INESC-ID). His main research interests include computer architectures, and parallel and embedded systems. He has organized several International conferences and has served on the Editorial Board of five different IEEE Transactions and Journals. He is a Distinguished Scientist of the ACM and an IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor. Professor Sousa is currently the Coordinator of the IST PhD School and member of the IST School Council.

Abstract

This seminar will focus on the Internet of Things (IoT). Starting from the requirements and energy sources, it provides a guided visit on devices for IoT, Microprocessor/MCU architectures and systems on chip (SOC). The architectures and the main characteristics of these devices are analysed only from the point of view of performance, energy efficiency, and security aspects. Applications and future directions for IOT will be presented.
